The light of yoga once lit, will never dim.

Updated: Aug 14

"The light of yoga once lit, will never dim. The better you practice, the brighter your flame."

BKS Iyengar inspires us with these words to always return to our yoga mats, to connect to our breath through pranayama, and to movement in our bodies through asana (or yoga poses).

Maintaining a regular practice, ideally daily, is a way to find routine and connection to our bodies and our breath. The routine and regular time for ourselves, either in the mornings or evenings, gives space and intention to this commitment to our inner peace, connection to our hearts and soul and deep stillness.

Try this for 30 days. Commit to 30 minutes each day on your mat. Notice the changes and shifts, the softening and the insights. Notice how our bodies feel different with regular movement as we build strength and flexibility. Poses become easier, longer holds more comfortable and meditation comes more easily. Commitment and consistency help shape new patterns and habits. This is one of the greatest gifts to ourself to keep the light of yoga alive through a regular practice.

To read more of BKS Iyengar's teachings get his seminal work, Light on Yoga. This modern yoga classic is an essential resource to deepen your practice and learn all about breath and asana. The classic photos and detailed instructions on all the yoga poses and pranayama, coupled with philosphy, provide the resources and tools to build a strong yoga practice with an authentic foundation by one of the pioneers of yoga.
