Rebecca Pretorius
Yoga Instructor
Meet Rebecca Ferreira
My yoga journey started whilst I was studying Occupational therapy. University was challenging and not much would get me out of bed before 8am lectures, until the switch flipped and I found myself getting onto my mat at 6am – sometimes even 5h30! I then realised that I’d found exactly what I needed – connection to body and breath.
Post OT community service year on the SA/Mozambique border (an year of adventure working in rural rehab), I travelled to India to immerse myself in the yogic lifestyle and complete my 200hr teacher training. This experience deepened my gratitude for this practice and inspired me to explore the relationship between the disciplines of OT and Yoga – could they work hand-in-hand?! Which I now know they most certainly can.
I’m now working as a pediatric OT in early childhood development, with special interest in the importance of movement in reaching foundational development milestones. My OT expertises equip me with the necessary skills to tailor yoga classes to the needs and abilities of my students, with the aim of facilitating movement that is playful yet strong and kind.
My journey of merging these two schools of thought and practice has enabled more compassionate and confident relationships with self and others – I look forward to sharing this with you.
